Sharon Isbin (born August 7, 1956) is an American classical guitarist, recording artist, concert performer, and the founder of the Guitar Department at the Juilliard School.

Early life and education

Isbin was born in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Katherine (Brudnoy) Isbin^[1] and Herbert S. Isbin, a nuclear scientist and professor at the University of Minnesota and author of Introductory Nuclear Reactor Theory (1963).^[2] She began her guitar studies at age nine in Varese, Italy, where her father had been hired as a consultant.^[3]

Bart van Lier (* 14. Juni 1950 in Haarlem) ist ein niederländischer Posaunist des Modern Jazz.

Leben und Wirken

Van Lier stammt aus einer musikalischen Familie (sein Vater Cor van Lier war als Trompeter tätig; sein älterer Bruder ist der Bassposaunist Erik van Lier). Seit dem achten Lebensjahr spielte er Kornett in der Loosdrechter Fanfare Nieuw Leven, um dann zur Posaune zu wechseln. Mit 18 Jahren wurde er Mitglied des VARA Tansorchesters. Während seines Studiums in Hilversum spielte er bei den Skymasters, den Ramblers und in Orchestern unter Leitung von Tony Nolte und Rogier van Otterloo. Ab 1976 arbeitete er bei Cees Slinger. Später gehörte er zu Peter Herbolzheimers Rhythm Combination & Brass und arbeitete in den Niederlanden als vielbeschäftigter Studiomusiker. Van Lier lehrt seit 1988 am Rotterdams Conservatorium. Seit 1992 ist er Soloposaunist des Metropole Orkest, mit dem er auf vielen Tonträgern und Gastsolisten wie Al Jarreau, Zoot Sims oder Toots Thielemans zu hören ist. Daneben spielte er im Cubop-Orchester Nueva Manteca, leitete das Posaunenquartett Bart’s Bones und hat auch mit Rein de Graaff aufgenommen. Im Jahr 2000 wurde er mit dem Jazz in Duketown Award geehrt.

Claudio Abbado, Cavaliere di Gran Croce OMRI ^[1] (Italian pronunciation: [ˈklaudjo abˈbaːdo]; 26 June 1933 – 20 January 2014) was an Italian conductor. One of the most celebrated and respected conductors of the 20th century, particularly in the music of Gustav Mahler, he served as music director of the La Scala opera house in Milan, principal conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra, principal guest conductor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, music director of the Vienna State Opera, and principal conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic orchestra.
